How to become a prayer Worrier
Steps to becoming a prayer warrior:
1. Pray without ceasing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
If you have this first point then the rest of them will probably follow anyway. I know this is groundbreaking, but I would say that the key to becoming a prayer warrior is to PRAY! Becoming a prayer warrior will not happen by itself, it is something that you as a Christian will actively have to pursue on a daily basis. Pray all day, every day, in season, out of season, by yourself, with other believers, when you are broken and thirst for God, and even on the days when you don’t really feel like doing it. I looked for verses on what the bible says about prayer before I started writing this, and I must say that a few main themes stuck into my mind. The one of which is that the Bible says to pray continuously at all times. Pray without ceasing.
2. Find a specific time that works for you to meet with God every day.
I started having consistent quiet time with God a few years ago. When I first started I did it at night before I would go to bed. It wasn’t anything special; I simply worked through a daily devotional, but it got me into the habit of having a consistent time with God which has influenced my Christian walk tremendously. Even if you aren’t completely up for it, having that daily connection with your Father is crucial to being a healthy Christian and a prayer warrior.
3. WRITE IT DOWN! WRITE IT DOWN! WRITE IT DOWN!
Did I mention you need to write it down? Seriously this is critical. Have a prayer list, journal, .txt file, it doesn’t matter. You know those sweet old ladies in the church who say things like “I’ll be praying for you!” or those people who say “I’ve been praying for you through this ….” I can all but guarantee you that they wrote you down somewhere. Some of you may think you have the memory of an elephant, but you will not be able to consistently pray for the things in your life that need to be prayed for unless you write it down.
When I started keeping a prayer list it became the difference between me thinking things like “I do not understand how someone could actually pray for 30 minutes straight, I mean what could someone honestly be praying about for that long?” to me having 45 minutes of prayer and saying to myself “man I’m going have to make myself start earlier or else I’m going to be late to class”.
Write it down, and over time you will be able to look at your prayer list and see exactly how God answers prayer over time.
4. Pray with other believers.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling -1 Timothy 2:8 ESV
My church does this thing where every Tuesday morning at the men in my church meet at a local fast-food restaurant for “Men’s prayer” It is so encouraging to be able to meet with other believers, and to pray for each other, our families, our church, our community, and our nation. There is a real power in many believers coming together in prayer to our great God.
5. Don’t leave anything out.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. –Philippians 4:6 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. -1 Timothy 2:1-4 ESV
Bring everything to God. He is your father and He wants you to bring your requests, and praises to Him. Pray about the things which are directly affecting you, but also pray for other people. Pray for your friends, family, lost people, your leadership in the church, and in the secular world.
Also, do not forget to praise God for the blessings in your life also. Praise Him for everything from the shoes on your feet, to a test result coming back negative. This is also a great time to reflect on the answered prayers that you have seen over time, and praise Him for answering your prayers.
Earlier on I mentioned that as I researched this subject I discovered a few of the major things that the bible says about prayer. The first was to pray continuously, the second is to not to be boastful in your prayers but to be humble. If you are praying in front of others pray to God, and don’t pray to the ones who are around you. Christianity is not about who is the most spiritual. We are all nothing without Christ, and in Him we are equally brothers and sisters.
Many Christians throw around the phrase “having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ”. Think about the many relationships you have with other people, your friends, family, significant other, and children. Now think about what your relationship would be like if you never spoke to them except for once on Sunday, and you also said the same short scripted words to them three times a day once at every meal. That wouldn’t be a very solid relationship would it?
Prayer is the avenue in which we talk to our great God. We pray to Him about everything, we bring our praises to Him, and we also bring our requests to Him. Life is so much easier to live when I can rest in the assurance that I have given my requests to God, and can know that He will answer through His will and in His time.
